Tout Jumps Into River To Escape Mob Action After Accident. See What Happened.

 

Following the unfortunate incident which happened on Tuesday, November 13, after a revenue collector purportedly pursued a heavy duty truck into causing a fatal accident on the Aba River Bridge at waterside area of Ogbor hill in Abia state, governor Okezie Ikpeazu, set up a high powered state delegation to investigate the matter.

 

The accident saw two passengers including a woman who were in a commercial tricycle a.k.a ‘Keke Napep’, killed and others injured.

The state governor directed the committee to investigate the remote and immediate cause(s) of the sad accident and visit the families of the deceased victims and those at the hospital to enable the get factual details of what happened during the incident.

Those involved in the accident are;

1. The truck driver (name not known).
2. The Keke driver – Mr. Temple Chibunna a 27 years old boy from Umuisenta Umuokahia II, in Obingwa LGA.
3. A  51-year-old teacher from Umuezechi in Bende LGA, known as Mrs. Ekeh Onwuka Chioma- Principal II at Ndiegero Secondary School, Ulasi Road, Aba).

4. The unofficial Revenue tout ( Agbero) – Mr. Chijioke Kalu – a 28 years old boy, who allegedly caused the accident while pursuing the truck driver.

The investigating Police Officer (IPO) while narrating his findings said that the agbero on seeing that he had caused the accident jumped into Aba river but was quickly accosted by some butcher who also dived into the river and brought him out to a waiting angry mob that beat him up before the arrival of the police.

The police rescued him together with other victims to New Era Hospital where they were rejected. While deciding where next to go,(the teacher) Mrs. Ekeh Onwuka Chioma died at the hospital there and was taken to St. Anthony Mortuary, while the Agbero and the Keke Driver were taken to Abia State Teaching Hospital, Aba where the Keke driver (Mr. Temple Chibunna) also gave up the ghost and was taken to SDA Hospital Mortuary. Consequently only the Agbero Mr. Chijioke Kalu was admitted at ABSUTH Aba.

The Agbero, Mr. Chijoke Kalu, was admitted with deep pain resulting from mob beating as he was bleeding from his nose and ear with a swollen eye.

The state delegation then left the hospital for the residence of the deceased victims at Ovom Asaa they were received by Mr. Samuel Agu an in-law to Mrs Ekeh Onwuka Chioma, and the first son- Mr. Steve Ekeh Onwuka. Speaking to the family Hon Amaechi Hanson, Executive Chairman of Obingwa LGA consoled the family and assured them of government support during this trying period. Mrs. Ekeh Chioma is survived by five children 3 boys and 2 girls, their father died last year.

The children are now orphans.
