I have been suffering incurable disease for over 40 years–Obasanjo reveals

Former Nigerian president, Olusegun Obasanjo has left many stunned by his revelation about grappling with incurable illness for over 40 years.

Obasanjo while speaking at the launch of “Lagos to the World” expedition on Sunday, which held at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) in Abeokuta, Ogun State, revealed that he has been battling with diabetes for over forty years.

Obasanjo revealed that regular medical checkup, discipline, diet, exercise and religiously taking his prescribed medication have helped him in managing the condition for forty years.

The event which focused on promoting cancer awareness and early detection, was conceived by entrepreneur and BMW enthusiast, Erik Nwagwu, in memory of his late mother and sister, who died of cancer.

Obasanjo emphasized the importance of healthy living as well as early detection of medical issues to necessitate medical intervention

I have a disease that is not yet curable, and that’s diabetes. I was diagnosed with diabetes more than 40 years ago. I still manage it.”

But what do I do? I play squash three times a week, Monday, Wednesday and Friday, if I’m around. I watch what I eat.

Diet can be exciting, can be pleasurable. But if you eat badly, then the consequences can also be bad for you. And then rest, he said.
