The Jigawa State Police Command yesterday confirmed 23 people dead in an accident at Gwamfai community in Jahun Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
The command’s spokesman, Audu Jinjiri, in a statement, said the accident occurred yesterday after a tyre burst.
He said the victims, 18 males and five females, were given mass burial at the scene.
He said a Toyota bus marked YD183 HJA was conveying the passengers from Jahun Local Government Area to Shuwarin Market in Kiyawa Local Government before the crash occurred.
He said the driver, Ayuba, 36, lost control “and hit a house, as a result, the vehicle caught fire and all the passengers and the driver got burnt beyond recognition. The doctor certified the bodies dead and the case is under investigation.”
