Dr. Jeffrey Dello Russo, an eye doctor in New Jersey, has seen a surge in patients complaining of eye problems since Monday’s solar eclipse.
About 25 patients have sought help, with some admitting they didn’t use protective glasses. Dello Russo explained that staring at the sun, even for a few seconds, can cause serious harm, likening it to a sunburn on the retina.
While most cases involve irritation and blurred vision, some could lead to permanent damage, including colour distortion and blindness.
He emphasized the importance of seeking medical attention for any eclipse-related symptoms and urged caution for future eclipses, advising the use of certified protective glasses.
