
A former youth football coach, Michael ‘Kit’ Carson, who was accused of sexually abusing 11 boys was killed in a car crash 16 minutes before he was due in court. The-75-old was due to stand trial accused of historical sexual abuse of boys aged under 16.
The coach and talent scout was due to stand trial yesterday, but it was delayed for 24 hours after the court heard he had been involved in the crash.
Today, Peterborough Crown Court were told by Jeremy Benson, prosecuting, that Carson had died.
The coach and talent scout had earlier denied 12 counts of indecent assault and one of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.
He died at 9.44pm yesterday after he veered off the A303 near Bottisham, Cambridgeshire, and collided with a tree.
Benson said that no other vehicle was involved in the collision and that Carson was the fatality.
Inspector Amarjit Singh QPM told the court the body of Carson was formally identified by his wife Pauline Carson.
Judge Matthew Lowe ruled that the case file be closed.
Carson, of St Bartholomew’s Court, Riverside, Cambridge, had been on bail.
A police spokesman said: “Emergency services attempted to save Mr Carson’s life but he was declared dead at the scene a short time later. “No other vehicle or person was involved in the collision.”
