For years, AY Live has featured some of the biggest names in Nigerian music, including Wizkid, Davido, Burna Boy, Tiwa Savage and Olamide.
According to AY Makun, things were quite different when the show first started. He recalled a time when personal relationships and friendships helped make it possible for some artistes to perform, with payments mainly covering their logistics.
In a post shared, he said:
“for many years, since the beginning of AY live, Wizkid, Davido, Burna boy, Tiwa Savage, Olamide have all performed at AY live. Those days many appearances were made possible through friendship. An artiste would accept any reasonable amount to cover their logistics, but today, the Nigerian musicians charge ₦200 million, ₦120 million, ₦80 million to appear on my show.”
The comedian and event organiser was comparing those early years with the cost of booking major Nigerian artistes today, saying performance fees have changed significantly over time.
