If you thought Wayne Rooney was done when he made the jump to Major League Soccer, you might want to think again.

Rooney has been a hit since moving from Everton to D.C. United last summer, and came up with another moment of magic on Wednesday night to give his side a lead against Orlando City.

United came into the night sitting third in the Eastern Conference with Rooney having already netted seven times on the year, but his eighth of the season was a sure-fire goal of the season contender.

As his side looked to clear its lines, the ball fell kindly to the former Manchester United man well inside his own half.

With a quick look up, Rooney spotted Orlando goalkeeper Brian Rowe drifting a bit too far off his line and decided to let fly.

Rowe was left helpless as Rooney’s 70-yard laser found its way into the net to put his club out in front.

It was far from the first moment of magic from Rooney since making the jump to MLS, and it may not even be his best.

Last August he produced one of the top plays of the season in MLS, racing to stop a breakaway with a sliding challenge and then picking out a teammate with a cross for a late winner.

And then there was his stunning free kick against Toronto In October, which also helped his club to a win as they made a late push into the MLS playoffs.

It also isn’t the first time Rooney has struck from his own half.

In November of 2017 he scored a similar goal for Everton as part of a stunning hat-trick against West Ham.
