A Voice in my head told me to do it — Man arrested for k+lling his 8-month pregnant girlfriend and extract the fetus in Edo state

A 40-year-old man, Samson Ekata, has been arrested by the Edo State Police Command for allegedly m¥rdering his 18-year-old pregnant girlfriend and m¥tilating her body in Uromi, Esan North-East Local Government Area.

The state Commissioner of Police, Patrick Daaor, disclosed this on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, while parading the suspect alongside other individuals arrested for various offences.

According to the police commissioner, the victim had reportedly lived with Ekata for about a year before the incident. He stated that the suspect k+lled her, severed one of her breasts and attempted to remove her unborn baby.

During an interview with journalists, Ekata admitted k+lling the young woman but claimed he acted under spiritual influence. He also maintained that it was his first time committing m¥rder.

Recounting what led to the incident, he said, “I began hearing voices instructing me to k+ll her, but I initially resisted because she was pregnant.

“The same instruction came to me in a dream about two weeks later, prompting me to commit the crime.

“After k+lling her, I severed her breast as the spirit instructed me to do so,” he said.

The suspect further disclosed that he transported the victim’s body in a Toyota Corolla before dumping it by the roadside. He denied having k+lled anyone else before the incident.

Reacting to the case, Daaor described the k+lling as horrific and expressed sadness over the de@th of the pregnant teenager. He credited members of the community for providing assistance that helped the police apprehend the suspect.

The commissioner assured residents that Ekata would face the full weight of the law and urged the public to continue sharing credible information with security agencies to help tackle crime.

He also cautioned parents to pay greater attention to their children’s safety, particularly that of girls, warning that vulnerable individuals could be targeted by sexual predators and other dangerous persons.
