Government forces in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) have successfully thwarted an attempted coup that unfolded on Saturday night.
The incident has left the nation on edge as authorities work to restore order and investigate those involved.
According to Congolese army spokesperson Brigadier General Sylvain Ekenge, “An attempted coup d’etat has been put down by the defense and security forces. The attempt involved foreigners and Congolese. These foreigners and Congolese have been put out of action, including their leader.”
Brigadier General Ekenge added that “The attempted coup d’état was nipped in the bud and the situation is under control,” but provided no further details.
The successful thwarting of the coup attempt is a relief for the DRC government, which has faced numerous challenges in recent years.
The incident highlights the ongoing security concerns in the region and the need for continued vigilance and cooperation between government forces and international partners.
