Police officers have intercepted an unregistered Toyota Rav4 vehicle with a pistol and ammunition after its driver reportedly abandoned it and escaped into the bush.
According to reports, at about 6am Wednesday, personnel of the unit stopped the unregistered vehicle with trade plate No. DV 40A-2018 at Shama Kumasi, near Shama Junction in Ghana.
It was gathered that the driver on seeing the police abandoned the car, took to his heels and entered the nearby bush.
A search on the car by the police revealed the pistol, two fully loaded magazines with 7 rounds of live ammunition each.
A total of 23 AAA ammunitions, six rolls of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp concealed in a phone cover, a bunch of keys and two temporary driver’s licence bearing the names of Andoh Bismarck and Quansah Benjamin Abeku were also discovered.
The vehicle and all exhibits have been sent to the office of the Western Regional Motor Traffic and Transport Department of the Ghana Police Service, while the Regional CID has taken over investigations .
