Following a public outcry, the controversial banner reading, “Jesus Christ is not God”.
He is a Prophet and Messenger of God!” has been taken down from the Lekki Central Mosque in Lagos
The banner sparked significant outrage across social media platforms.
The removal was confirmed in a video posted on X by a user named Adeleke Opeyemi. In his post, Opeyemi wrote: “The controversial banner has been removed from Lekki Central Mosque. Everyone can rest now… My opinion: No one can fight for God. Religion is a sensitive issue, and we should all take it easy sometimes.”
The video featured Tunde Alabi, a member of the Lekki Muslim Community, who shared that he personally verified the removal of the banner after notifying the mosque committee about the public backlash it had caused.
In the video, Alabi said, “Good evening, everybody. My name is Tunde Alabi, and I’m a member of the Lekki Muslim Community. I noticed a banner posted in front of our mosque that was causing some controversy. I sent a message to the mosque committee, and they told me it had been removed. So, I came here to check for myself.”
Pointing to the spot where the banner had been displayed, he confirmed, “It has indeed been removed, as you can see. I’m not speaking on behalf of the mosque, but I can confirm it’s gone. I apologize for any inconvenience it may have caused. The banner has been removed. Thank you.”
Alabi also added, “Today’s date is the 18th of December 2024, and it’s about 6 p.m.”
