Court orders remand of unemployed man over alleged theft
THE Dutse Magistrates’ Court, Abuja on Tuesday ordered the remand of an unemployed man, Chukwudi Ogbu, for allegedly stealing from a barber’s shop.
Ogbu, of no fixed address, is standing trial on charges bordering on criminal trespass, shop breaking and theft.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecuting counsel, Mr Babajide Olanipekun, informed the court that the defendant committed the offences sometime in May.
Olanipekun said that the matter was reported at the Kubwa Police Station, Abuja.
He alleged that the defendant, on the said date, criminally entered into a barber shop situated at Kukwuaba, Kubwa Abuja which is being managed by one Mr Monday Haruna.
He said that the defendant allegedly stole two generating sets and other electronics all valued at about N420, 000.
The prosecutor also alleged that a few weeks later, the defendant again criminally entered the same barber’s shop, but was arrested while trying to steal some electric wires.
He said that during police investigation and interrogation, the defendant could not give a satisfactory account of his actions.
The offence, he said, contradicts the provisions of Sections 342, 346 and 287 of the Penal Code Law.
The Senior Magistrate, Mrs Evelyn Dara, ordered the remand of the defendant because he didn’t have a definite address.
She adjourned the matter until Aug. 10, for hearing. (NAN)
