This criticism follows Burna Boy’s reaction to the announcement of the new titleholder, after Chidimma Vanessa Onwe Adetshina withdrew from the competition.
On X, Daniel Regha highlighted that the selection of a deaf woman as Miss South Africa 2024 represents a significant step towards inclusivity. He criticized the focus on the winner Mia’s skin color as both hypocritical and racially biased.
Regha stated, “A deaf woman just won Miss South Africa for the first time; that’s a show of representation and inclusivity. What happened to Chidimma is unfortunate, but mocking Mia based on her skin color is hypocrisy and subtle racism, which undermines our efforts to combat such issues.”
He further expressed frustration with intra-African hostility, noting, “I am tired of Africans hating on fellow Africans. We are already despised by many foreigners and disunited among ourselves. Africa should be a place where every African feels at home, but we continue to struggle with xenophobia, tribalism, and ethnic bigotry.”
