Delta Commissioner, Others Arrested Over Death of Deputy Director
What began as an investigation into the death of a senior education official in Delta State has now widened, with the state Commissioner for Secondary Education among those taken into police custody.
The Commissioner, Dr Kingsley Ashibogwu, was arrested alongside three other suspects as detectives continued probing the circumstances surrounding the death of Unity Ekpevbughe Adeda, a Deputy Director in the Delta State Ministry of Secondary Education.
The latest development was confirmed by the Delta State Police Command in a statement issued on Monday by its spokesperson, Bright Edafe.
According to the police, five people are now being held in connection with the investigation.
However, the identities of the three other suspects arrested alongside Ashibogwu had not been made public as of the time of filing this report.
And the investigation has not stopped there.
Police have also declared two additional individuals wanted for questioning. They are Mrs Clementine Ufuoma, the Director of Basic and Secondary Education, and Clement Apia, who serves as the Commissioner for Secondary Education’s driver.
The police said the arrests form part of ongoing efforts to establish what happened in the circumstances surrounding Adeda’s death.
The command stated that Ashibogwu and the three other suspects were taken into custody as investigators continued examining the case.
With five people currently in custody and two others wanted for questioning, authorities are still working to piece together the events that preceded the Deputy Director’s death.
