Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC)

The defection was confirmed on Wednesday following a closed-door meeting at the Government House in Asaba, attended by top political stakeholders.
Sources close to the development revealed that the governor’s decision came after “extensive consultations” and was aimed at advancing the long-term growth and development of the state.
Oborevwori, who was elected on the PDP platform in 2023, was formally welcomed into the APC by senior party leaders in what is being seen as a major political shift.
Analysts believe the move could significantly alter Delta State’s political dynamics ahead of the 2027 general elections.
While the governor is yet to issue a formal statement, insiders suggest more details about the defection will be made public in the coming days.
