Democrats are expressing frustration with George Clooney after the actor urged Joe Biden to withdraw from the presidential race before Donald Trump’s election win.
Following Trump’s decisive victory over Kamala Harris, some are criticizing Clooney, a lifelong Democrat, for his influence on the election.
In a New York Times op-ed in July, the ‘Ocean’s Eleven’ actor, 63, urged Biden, 81, to step down, writing, “We are not going to win in November with this president.”
Clooney later commended Biden for his “selfless” decision to exit the race on July 21, which led to Harris’s 107-day campaign to try to defeat Trump.
Harris’s campaign ended in disappointment on Wednesday, with Trump making a successful return to the White House.
Trump now holds 295 electoral votes and is leading in the popular vote.
Many Democrats are now blaming Clooney for encouraging Biden to step down months before the election.
