Elon Musk has announced he’ll be visiting India to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi, though the date hasn’t been specified yet. The Tesla CEO is expected to unveil significant investment plans for the country soon.
India recently slashed import taxes on electric vehicles (EVs) for global automakers pledging to invest $500 million and commence local production within three years.
Previously, Musk cited India’s high import duties as a barrier to launching Tesla cars in the country. The meeting, slated for late April, will likely take place at Modi’s official residence in New Delhi, focusing on Tesla’s manufacturing plans in India.
Musk’s visit coincides with India’s marathon six-week-long elections starting on April 19, with Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) expected to secure a third term. A Tesla investment announcement during this period would boost Modi’s pro-business image.
