A father uses his uncle’s DNA to fake a paternity test and avoid £20,000 in child maintenance payments.
The 32-year-old father, whose identity remains anonymous for went to extreme lengths to deny his three-year-old son’s parentage.
Deceiving a doctor by obtaining his uncle’s DNA sample during the test, the father’s deceit initially succeeded. However, his scheme failed when the child’s mother refused the results, leading to a police investigation and arrest.
Exposed in court, the father pleaded guilty to fraud by false representation, acknowledging his fraudulent actions to escape financial responsibilities. His actions not only affected his child’s welfare but also caused significant emotional distress to the mother, who struggled to cope financially.
Despite his remorse and financial restitution efforts, the court sentenced him to a twelve-month Community Order, including community service and rehabilitation activities.
