Actor, Femi Adebayo wins battle against Pirated online TV

In a statement released on Tuesday, May 7, Adebayo announced that he was awarded N25 million in damages, marking a significant win for him and the movie industry.

The legal battle began in 2021 when Adebayo took Murfy Ben International to court over the unauthorized use of his movie titles and posters.

The defendant had used the title of Adebayo’s 2019 film, “Survival of Jelili,” to promote an older movie, “Kodi Ologbon-Aye,” released in 2015. This deceitful tactic aimed to confuse fans and divert revenue meant for Adebayo.

The actor’s statement read in part:

“This win is not just for me as a filmmaker and content producer, but for all of Nollywood. We must be willing to fight against piracy and IP theft at all levels. Every victory brings us closer to protecting and receiving the true economic value of our work.”
