The Presidency on Monday said it recognisedΒ Amaju PinnickΒ as NFF Chairman alongside his executives as the authentic Nigerian Football Federation executives.
The Senior Special Assistant to the Vice President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Laolu Akande, disclosed this in a message he posted on his Twitter handle, @akandeoj.
Akande said the Federal Government had already conveyed its position to the world football governing body, FIFA.
He said the government would continue to work with stakeholders to resolve the federationβs dispute in due time.
He added that the government is upholding NFFβs treaty obligations to FIFA.
Akande wrote:
βThe FG has already conveyed to FIFA its firm position recognising Amaju Pinnick-led NFF as the current and only NFF executive.
βGovernment will also continue to work with all relevant stakeholders involved to resolve the dispute in a timely manner.
βThe Federal Government is upholding NFF treaty obligations to FIFA.β
The move was taken after FIFA had earlier thretened to ban Nigeria from international football.
Last week, it was reported that acting president Yemi Osinbajo met with sports minister Solomon Dalung behind closed doors moments after their Federal Executive Council meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Before meeting with Dalung, Osinbajo had held talks with Amaju Pinnick, a rival of Chris Giwa, who are both laying claim to the presidency of the Nigeria Football Federation.
