A significant fire broke out at a palm kernel oil extracting industry in Abakaliki, Ebonyi state, resulting in substantial damage and loss
The blaze destroyed palm kernels valued at over N170 million, refined and unrefined oil, and a Sienna bus.
The industry’s executive director, Emmanuel Alinchi, reported that the fire began around 1:17 am and spread quickly, engulfing the entire structure by the time the fire service arrived.
While no lives were lost, approximately 50 workers have been displaced due to the incident.
The cause of the fire remains unknown, and the industry is seeking government intervention to recover from the losses, estimated to be around N500 million.
The Director of the State Fire Service, Raphael Ibiam, noted that their team responded promptly but faced challenges due to the industry’s cramped conditions and combustible materials.
