An 11-year-old girl, Tia Gordon, from Northampton, endured misdiagnoses of stomach bugs and migraines by doctors more than 30 times before she was diagnosed with brain tumour.

Despite repeated visits to GPs, A&E, and NHS 111 calls, her severe headaches persisted. Tia’s mother, Imogen Darby, persisted, noticing her daughter’s balance and walking difficulties worsening. Finally, an emergency scan uncovered the shocking truth: a 3.5cm brain tumour.

Initially dismissed as common ailments, Tia’s symptoms escalated over three years. Despite seeking help, including multiple visits to doctors and A&E, and changing her glasses prescription four times, Tia’s condition worsened. It wasn’t until her ability to walk was affected that she received urgent attention. Subsequent scans revealed the presence of a tumour.

Following a 10-hour surgery, 96% of the benign tumour was removed. However, Tia still experiences fatigue and balance issues. Despite the challenges, she remains resilient, eagerly awaiting a return to her favourite activities, including spending time with family, reading, and playing dodgeball.

Tia’s story highlights the importance of timely diagnosis and underscores the need for better awareness and resources for childhood brain tumours.
