A groundbreaking project, Transform, aims to change prostate cancer screening and reduce de3ths by 40% in the UK.
With no existing screening program, this £42m initiative is hailed as a game-changer by experts. Prostate cancer claims around 12,000 lives annually in the UK, yet there’s been no effective way to detect it early.
Transform will involve screening methods like PSA blood tests, genetic testing, and a faster MRI scan called Prostagram. These tests will be compared to current NHS methods to determine the most effective.
Over 12,500 men will participate initially, with up to 300,000 involved later. The trial’s impact will be monitored for at least a decade.
This initiative, supported by Prostate Cancer UK and funded by NIHR, Movember, and the Freddie Green and Family Charitable Foundation, could save lives in the UK and set a new global standard for prostate cancer detection.
