ICPC Rejects Dangote’s Request To Withdraw Petition Against Former NMDPRA Boss, Farouk Ahmed—Insists Investigations Must Continue

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has declined billionaire Alhaji Aliko Dangote’s request to withdraw his petition against Farouk Ahmed, the former CEO of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), who was accused of corruption.

ICPC spokesperson John Odey said in a Wednesday statement that the commission had already begun investigating the allegations in the interest of Nigerians. “The ICPC will continue to investigate this matter in line with its statutory mandate and in the interest of transparency, accountability, and the fight against corruption for the benefit of Nigeria,” the statement added.

The commission had received a letter dated January 5 from Dangote’s lawyer, Dr. O.J. Onoja, SAN, titled “Notice of Withdrawal of Petition against Engineer Farouk Ahmed.” The letter indicated that Dangote wished to withdraw the petition filed on December 16, 2025, citing that another law enforcement agency had taken over.

However, the ICPC emphasized that under sections 3(14) and 27(3) of its enabling Act, investigations had already commenced and will continue, as they serve the interests of the Nigerian people and the state.
