JUST IN: Coal City University Denies Running Law Programme, Clarifies Position After Oriental Times Report

Coal City University, Enugu, has denied allegations that it admitted students into a law programme without regulatory approval, stating that it does not operate a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) programme.

The clarification follows an earlier report by Oriental Times, which was based on information received from a source who claimed to have direct knowledge of the matter, including claims that students had been admitted to study law despite the university not appearing on the list of institutions approved by the Council of Legal Education.

In a statement issued by its management, the university said it was necessary to correct the impression created by the report.

“The Management of Coal City University, Enugu, wishes to formally address and correct a publication which alleged that the University admitted students into a Law programme beyond the quota approved by the National Universities Commission (NUC),” the statement read.

The institution stated unequivocally that it does not run a law programme.

“The University states clearly and unequivocally that Coal City University has not established a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) programme and therefore has not admitted any Law students,” it said, describing the claim as “false, misleading, and without any factual basis.”

It further advised members of the public, parents and prospective students to disregard the earlier report, noting that it does not reflect the true position of the university.

“Members of the public, parents, prospective students, and stakeholders are kindly advised to disregard the report, as it does not reflect the true position of the University,” the statement added.

The university also urged media organisations to verify information with relevant authorities before publication in order to avoid the dissemination of misinformation capable of misleading the public and damaging institutional reputations.

Coal City University reiterated its commitment to regulatory compliance, stating that it remains “committed to full compliance with NUC regulations and to maintaining the highest standards of integrity and academic excellence.”

Oriental Times reports that the institution reached out shortly after the initial publication to convey its position and clarify that the report was inaccurate.

The earlier report, which has since been taken down, was based on information supplied by a source who claimed to have direct knowledge of the matter.
