The 18-year-old prodigy received the shirt during a private ceremony at Spotify Camp Nou, where he was presented with the jersey by club president Joan Laporta. This marks a significant moment for both the club and the player, as Yamal becomes the new face of Barça’s future.
Speaking on the development, Yamal said: Messi paved the way; now I’ll make mine. He added that he doesn’t feel pressure, only inspiration, and is focused on creating his own legacy.
Yamal had previously worn shirt numbers 41, 27, and most recently 19. The No. 10 jersey became available after Ansu Fati was loaned to AS Monaco. The decision to pass the shirt to Yamal reflects the club’s confidence in the young star, who already has a treble with Barcelona and a Euro title with Spain to his name.
