McBurnie almost managed to score a late consolation goal for United, but Alisson prevented it from crossing the line to help his side recording a clean sheet during a dominant display.
Liverpool will now be take plenty of confidence into their Merseyside derby clash with Everton in the FA Cup on Sunday before their next league match against Tottenham the following week.
Meanwhile, United have a good chance to bounce back from this defeat when they host Fylde in the FA Cup on Sunday, while they then host West Ham in their next league encounter.
