Nasarawa records 800 cholera cases

Nasarawa State has recorded at least 800 cholera cases across 13 local government areas.

The Director of Public Healthcare in the state’s Ministry of Health, Dr Ibrahim Alhassan-Adamu, disclosed this in an interview with Daily Trust on Thursday in Lafia, the state capital.

He said the majority of the cases have been treated and discharged from health facilities.

He added that the state government has procured drugs for the treatment of the disease.

Alhassan-Adamu said the state government has not been able to arrest the situation due to the practice of open defecation, which was still rampant among the people, especially those in riverine areas.

According to him, the state government has embarked on an awareness campaign to enlighten the people on the danger of open defecation and drinking unclean water.
