NNPP wins all local government seats in Kano Elections

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has achieved a sweeping victory in the recent local government elections, securing all chairmanship and councillorship positions across the 44 local government areas of Kano State.

Sani Malumfashi, Chairman of the Kano Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC), announced the results at the commission’s headquarters, declaring the NNPP the winner in every contested local government.

According to Channels TV, the election saw participation from six political parties and was conducted peacefully throughout the state.

During a press briefing, Malumfashi commended the orderly conduct of the elections, noting that there were no reports of violence or electoral misconduct. “We are pleased to announce that the NNPP has won all the chairmanship and councillorship seats across the 44 local government areas. The election was conducted transparently and without incidents,” he stated.

Observers have praised the election as a significant achievement for the state, highlighting the effective organization and security measures that ensured a smooth process.

The elections followed a series of legal challenges aimed at preventing them from taking place.

On Friday, the Kano State High Court granted KANSIEC the authority to proceed with the elections, rejecting attempts by political parties to halt the exercise. Justice Sanusi Ma’aji ruled that KANSIEC is constitutionally empowered to conduct and oversee local government elections in the state.

The case was initiated by KANSIEC against the All Progressives Congress (APC) and 13 other political parties.

Correspondents monitoring the election reported that local vigilante groups and officials from the Kano Road Transport Agency provided security at polling units, following a court order that restricted the Kano State Police Command from participating in the election.
