The Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II, has declared that indigenes and residents of Edo State to observe a two-week period of fasting and prayer to seek divine protection and blessings for the land
The directive was contained in a statement on Monday by the Obamedo of Benin, Efosa Igbinomwanhia.

According to the monarch, the spiritual exercise will run from September 15 to September 28, with all Benin sons and daughters, both at home and abroad, encouraged to participate.
“His Royal Majesty, Omo N’Oba N’Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Ewuare II, CFR, Oba of Benin, informs the public that from 15th to 28th September 2025, all indigenes and non-indigenes in Edo State are to embark on fasting and prayer. This is part of our tradition, which requires that before the annual new yam festival, we seek God Almighty and the royal ancestors for a fruitful harvest, protection from sudden death, and peace in our homes, state, and nation,” the statement read.
The fasting will run daily from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., with the Oba praying for peace, happiness, and divine favour for all who take part in the exercise.
