Ogun Police Officer Sh00ts and K!ll Security Guard Who Woke Him Over Suspected Robbery
An Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Rotimi Richard Ajayi, has been detained over the alleged k+lling of a 26-year-old security guard, Ayineka Ayomide Daniel, at TSL Halogen Company in Itori, Ogun State, on October 14.
Another guard reportedly sustained gunsh%t wounds to both hands and is receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.
The case has been transferred from Itori Police Station to the Ogun State Police Headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta, where the officer is being held as investigations continue.
A company staff member, Abayomi, described the incident as an accidental discharge,claiming the guards had suspected an intruder and that the deceased went to alert the police officer.
“It was just an accidental discharge. The two of them are security guards; the policeman was detailed to the location, while the security guard also works at that particular place,” he said.
He added: “So, when they suspected that there was an intruder, it was even the deceased that went to call the police officer. So, in the process of them trying to combat the intruder, it was the security guard that was sh%t.”
He confirmed the officer’s detention and said the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2 had ordered a thorough investigation.
However, the deceased’s father, Ayineka Oluwashola, gave a different account, alleging that the officer opened fire on the guards after they woke him from sleep over the suspected robbery.
According to him, the family was initially told that his son had fought with a friend and sustained inj¥ries before learning he had been sh%t.
“They had to go and wake the MOPOL that was asleep already. Immediately they woke the MOPOL, they said he began sh%%ting them. He sh%t my son in the neck, the other guy, he sh%t him in his two hands,” he said.
Oluwashola said the family submitted a statement at Eleweran Police Headquarters demanding justice but was denied access to the detained officer. He added that they b¥ride Daniel without an autopsy because his body had swollen.
