Peter Obi visits late Peter Rufai’s family

Peter Obi visited the family of Nigeria’s late football hero, Peter Rufai, this morning to offer condolences following the goalkeeper’s burial in Lagos yesterday. He was accompanied by former international Sylvanus Okpala

Obi comforted Rufai’s family, encouraged them to stay strong, and prayed for the soul of the former Super Eagles star. He spent about an hour with Rufai’s younger brother, Bruce, his sisters Bosede and Dele, and other family members at their Amuwo Odofin residence, before signing the condolence book.Peter Obi visits late Peter Rufai’s family

Bruce Rufai, who had returned from Spain for the burial, expressed his gratitude. “I’m here to say I’m very sorry about the passing of our great goalkeeper. I only learned about the burial yesterday while in Abuja, so I flew into Lagos this morning. I would have attended the funeral if I had known the date earlier. Please be consoled. May his soul rest in peace,” Obi said.

The family expressed how much Obi’s visit meant to them. “We can’t thank you enough,” Bruce said. “We felt abandoned by the authorities, but your presence has truly lifted our spirits. We are honoured by your visit. Thank you, Your Excellency.”

Some family members were visibly excited upon seeing Peter Obi, gathering in the home that once belonged to Dodo Mayana, Rufai’s nickname during his playing days.
