Police arrest man with counterfeit naira notes

Operatives of the Lagos Police Command have arrested a 47-year-old man, Shola Owosho, for being in possession of counterfeit naira notes

The suspect was arrested on Thursday night by policemen attached to the Ijora Badia Division.

He was alleged to have gone.to the Oba Abdulfatai Aromire Ojora Market in Ijora around 6:30pm where he bought food items of about N7,000 and paid with counterfeit N1,000 notes.

An alarm was immediately raised by traders in the market and the police were subsequently notified about the occurrence.

Owosho was promptly searched by the police and additional N6,000 fake naira notes were found on him.

Confirming his arrest, spokesman for the command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, said the total suspected counterfeits N1,000 notes recovered from him was N13,000, adding that investigation had commenced at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Yaba, where the case was transfered to.

“The suspect admitted to the commission of the crime and mentioned where he had purchased the suspected counterfeit currencies.

“The exhibit recovered has been duly registered and efforts are in progress to apprehend other accomplices connected to the crime,” said Hundeyin.
