Luis Montenegro, leader of Portugal’s centre-right Democratic Alliance, is expecting an invitation from the president to become the country’s next Prime Minister

After the parliamentary election on March 10, where the Alliance secured a narrow victory but fell short of a majority, Montenegro expects to lead a new government once the final ballots from overseas are counted.
Despite not securing a working majority, Montenegro expressed confidence in the Alliance’s ability to govern independently. He stated that they are prepared to form a government on their own, although this would entail negotiating support for legislation in parliament on a case-by-case basis.
As Portugal awaits the official outcome of the election, Montenegro stands poised to lead the nation into its next political chapter.
