A pregnant mother of nine, Esther Godday, has been arrested after allegedly stabbing one Mrs. Imeran Idema who was trying to stop her from stealing a bunch of plantain from her family farm dead
According to The Nation newspaper, the incident happened at Agada village on 28 January, Godday was said to have sneaked into the farm in Agada village in Abua, Rivers State to steal a bunch of plantains.
She had successfully cut off a bunch of plantain from the farm before Idema saw her.
Ideman attempted to stop her from escaping with her loot, leading to a struggle and argument between the two.
In the heat of the struggle, Idema allegedly used a cutlass to inflict injuries on Goodday on the leg to stop her from running further away.
However, Godday in anger, dropped the bunch of plantain and descended on Idema with her cutlass, inflicting multiple injuries on her.
She later reportedly abandoned the plantain and ran away when she saw that Idema was bleeding heavily from the injuries she inflicted on her.
But Idema’s scream reportedly attracted other members of her family who immediately took her to the hospital for treatment, but she succumbed to her injuries and gave up at the hospital.
However, before her death, Mrs Idema was able to narrate her encounter with Goodday to her family members who subsequently went to lodge a report at the police station.
The eight-month pregnant Godday was subsequently arrested and charged to court.
Rivers State Commissioner of Police CP Olatunji Disu, was quoted as advising people to have only children they can cater for in his reaction to the incident.
