Real Madrid have confirmed that Santiago Solari has been appointed as the club’s new manager.
The 42-year-old took over as interim boss following the sacking of Julen Lopetegui who managed only 14 games in charge of the La Liga giants, winning only six of those matches.
Lopetegui’s brief tenure ended in a 5-1 thumping to Barcelona at the Nou Camp.
Solari, who played for Madrid from 2000 to 2005, has since led the club to four wins on the bounce and has been rewarded with the job on a permanent basis.
Spanish rules state that an interim coach cannot be in charge for more than two weeks so Madrid had to appoint Solari – or an alternative – to avoid punishment.
The Argentine has signed a three-year deal to remain with the Spanish outfit until 2021.
