Reform Nigerian Police for us – Speed Darlington to Tinubu

Speed Darlington, the controversial Nigerian singer, has urged President Tinubu to implement reforms in the Nigeria Police Force

In a video shared on Saturday, August 23, Speed Darlington emphasized that the Tinubu administration should prioritize more than just economic growth and GDP, insisting that protecting citizens’ rights is equally crucial.

“Mr. President, before you leave office, whether you get a second term or not, do your best to improve Nigeria. Leadership isn’t only about the economy!

“There is more to leadership than finances. Look around—people are calling your name, complaining. Nobody truly loves you. Only those you’ve given jobs to support you. Even your own tribe is unhappy.

“As an Igbo man, my advice for leaving a positive legacy is this: reform the police. The Nigerian Police is an oppressive institution often violating human rights. It seems like if they aren’t oppressing someone, they aren’t doing their job.

“Before you leave office, speak to your Yoruba brother, the IGP. The practice of arresting before investigation is a blatant human rights violation. You arrest someone and hold them before any investigation—this is wrong.”

Recalling his personal encounter with law enforcement, Speed Darlington added, “I was detained for two months even after a judge ordered my release. FID held me for two months.

“My lawyer told me the law allows only 28 days for investigation, yet they held me longer—simply because they could. They oppress your enemies if you don’t pay them. I’ve experienced it firsthand.”
