Rivers State Court nullifies APC caretaker committee

A Rivers State High Court in Port Harcourt has overturned the removal of the Emeka Beke-led executive of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State.

On Monday, Justice Sika Aprioku ruled that the National Working Committee (NWC) of the APC acted improperly by dissolving the elected executive led by Emeka Beke. The judge clarified that the NWC does not have the authority to dissolve a state’s elected executive or to appoint a caretaker committee while the elected executive’s tenure is ongoing.

As a result, the court dismissed the Caretaker Committee led by Chief Tony Okocha and reinstated Emeka Beke’s leadership. Justice Aprioku also prohibited Tony Okocha and the caretaker committee members from continuing to present themselves as the APC executives in Rivers State.
