See the heart-stopping moment an airplane avoids a fatal crash against another on the runway by flying back up (Video)

Obviously, no aviator wishes to encounter with this heart-stopping moment. Fortunately, this plane avoids a fatal crash. Check the footage of this one-off incident here!

The video was about a hair-raising moment in 2014 wherein a Boeing 767-300 of a Russian Airline, the UTAir from Moscow to Barcelona had to abort its landing when witnessing another aircraft getting into the runway all of a sudden to avoid a fatal crash.

The runway of the UTAir’s Boeing 767-300 was invaded by an Airbus A340-300 of the Aerolineas Argentinas which was taxiing for departure to Argentina. Fortunately, the quick-witted aviator averted a head-on crash which might have happened in seconds, saving the lives of all passengers and crew on the UTair’s aircraft. The Boeing 767-300, then, safely landed after fifteen minutes.

Said by the ATC (Air Traffic Control) service provider and airport operator, the UTAir’s plane could have continued landing due to sufficient space between the two aircraft causing no danger. But later, they still offered an official apology for that mistake. Explaining for this error, the flight training manager at Ansett Aviation Training, John Holmes said:

“The instructions to the A340 possibly were misunderstood by the captain, or they might not have heard or acknowledged the instructions, or there may have been no instruction issued from the control tower.”

The pilot had to halt its landing as having spotted another aircraft of his runway

Spain’s Civil Aviation Accident and Incident Investigation Commission (CIAIAC), also launched a report which came to a conclusion that the crew in the UTAir Boeing 767-300 acted perfectly in spite of the efficient distance between the two planes.

Another similar drama happened in Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport in 2016 when the pilot’s Airbus 320 chose to speed up and fly over another Airbus A330 as he spotted it taxying nearby. The Chinese pilot was given £335,000 (~ ₦155 million) preventing a crash which could have killed 439 people.
