Senegal announces March 24 for Presidential election

Senegal has set March 24 for the presidential election after the Constitutional Court deemed the proposed April 2 date unconstitutional

President Macky Sall‘s mandate ends on April 2; originally set for February 25, the election was postponed amid disputes.

Sall’s December election proposal sparked protests, challenging Senegal’s status as West Africa’s most stable democracy.

The Constitutional Court rejected a June 2 vote proposal, prompting Sall to dissolve the government and replace Prime Minister Amadou Ba.

An amnesty law raises hopes for the release of detained opposition figures, but timing limits opposition leader Ousmane Sonko’s participation.
