Vice President Kashim Shettima visited Maiduguri on Tuesday to offer condolences to the people of Borno State following the devastating Alau dam flood disaster, which displaced thousands.
He led a federal government delegation to the city, where he was received by Governor Babagana Zulum.
The Vice President visited the palace of the Shehu of Borno, Abubakar El-Kanemi, which was also affected by the flood, and then proceeded to the Bakassi camp, where thousands of displaced persons are taking refuge.
Shettima assured the victims that the government would provide support, including 50 trucks of rice, and work with agencies like the North-East Development Commission to ensure they don’t spend more than two weeks in the camp.
The flood, which occurred on Tuesday, caused widespread destruction, engulfing buildings, roads, and bridges in Maiduguri.
