Singer Chris Brown Receives Eight-Month Suspended Prison Sentence Over 2023 London Nightclub Attack
American singer Chris Brown has been handed an eight-month prison sentence, suspended for 12 months, over an att@ck on music producer Abraham Diaw at a London nightclub in February 2023.
The 37-year-old Grammy-winning singer was sentenced on Monday, October 26, at Southwark Crown Court after pleading guilty to affray in July. The suspended sentence means he will not immediately serve time in prison, provided he complies with the applicable conditions.
The incident occurred at Tape nightclub in London’s Mayfair district. Prosecutors told the court that Brown struck Diaw with a heavy tequila bottle, hitting him on the head twice. CCTV footage presented during the proceedings reportedly showed Brown striking the producer several times, while his vocal coach, Omololu Akinlolu, also joined the confrontation.
Diaw sustained head and knee injuries and received medical treatment at St Mary’s Hospital.
The singer had faced more serious charges, including a§§ault and attempting to cause grievous bodily h@rm, as well as possessing an offensive we@pon. Those charges were dropped after he pleaded guilty to affray.
Brown was arrested in Manchester in May 2025 after returning to the United Kingdom for a concert. He was subsequently released on bail after providing £5 million in security, allowing him to continue his tour.
Despite avoiding immediate imprisonment, the suspended sentence leaves Brown subject to the court’s conditions during the 12-month period.
