A teenage girl in south-west China had to be rescued after she accidentally got her leg stuck in drainage cover
The 16-year-old girl from Zunyi city was said to be so skinny that her left leg was able to slip between the bars, which were only eight centimetres ( three inches) wide.
Unable to pull her leg out, she was left supporting herself in an awkward lunging position with one foot on the surface of the road as she awaited rescue crews.
Video footage of the incident in Guizhou province on August 2 shows firefighters using a circular saw to cut through the iron bars.
The firemen also covered the girl’s leg with a wet cloth to protect her from the sparks.
Using a hydraulic expander, the rescuers were finally able to create enough space between the bars for the girl to pull out her leg. She was freed after 10 minutes.
Her leg suffered minor cuts and was bleeding from the accident. She was immediately taken to hospital.
The girl and her friends were heading back to school from a nearby basketball court at about 7pm when she suddenly lost her footing, according to Kan Kan News.
The authorities have reminded members of the public to watch where they are walking.
