President Bola Tinubu has held a high-level security meeting with National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu and the heads of Nigeria’s intelligence and security agencies at the Presidential Villa in Abuja
This was Tinubu’s first in-person meeting with the newly appointed security chiefs since their appointments on June 19, 2023. In attendance were Chief of Defence Staff Maj. Gen. Christopher Musa, Chief of Army Staff Maj. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, Chief of Naval Staff Rear Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, Chief of Air Staff AVM Hassan Abubakar, Chief of Defence Intelligence Maj. Gen. EPA Undiandeye, and Acting Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun.
During the closed-door session, President Tinubu urged the security agencies to work in unity to confront Nigeria’s security challenges. NSA Nuhu Ribadu, who briefed reporters afterward, said, “He told us that we must work as a team and that there’s work to be done.”
Ribadu also noted that the country had already begun to see improvements in security due to increased cooperation among the agencies. He expressed confidence that with continued teamwork, Nigeria’s security situation would improve even further.
The meeting was also an opportunity for the service chiefs to thank the President for their appointments and to reaffirm their commitment to restoring peace and protecting Nigerians across the country.
