Troops Rescue Kidnapped Soldier in Plateau
For nearly 24 hours, the whereabouts of a Nigerian Army corporal remained unknown after he was abducted from a military training area in Plateau State.
Then, late Monday night, the search operation produced a breakthrough.
Troops of Sector 3, Operation Enduring Peace, OPEP, rescued the soldier, identified as Cpl. Amos Bala, after sustained operations aimed at locating him and forcing his abductors to release him.
Bala was kidnapped on September 27, 2026, at the Nigerian Army Training Centre, NATC, Miango Range, in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.
According to security sources cited by security expert Zagazola Makama, the soldier regained his freedom at about 9:00 p.m. on September 28, following continued pressure from troops operating in the area.
But although he had been freed, the ordeal had taken a toll.
The corporal reportedly suffered injuries while in captivity and was immediately evacuated to the NATC Medical Centre, where he received medical attention.
After treatment, Bala was discharged from the medical facility and subsequently rejoined his unit.
His rescue came after troops intensified efforts to trace his location and secure his safe release.
The operation is part of the ongoing activities of Sector 3, Operation Enduring Peace, aimed at tackling security threats and protecting communities across the area.
