We Paid ₦6m Ransom In Dollars To Secure Release Of Our Son — Parent Of One Of 20 NYSC Members Abducted In Imo State

A parent of one of the 20 prospective NYSC members abducted in Imo State has revealed that the family paid ₦6 million in ransom to secure the release of their son.

The parent made the disclosure during an interview with News Central TV, explaining that the family raised the money through contributions from relatives and others before borrowing to complete the ransom.

“We paid 6 million from our own side,” the mother said.

When asked how the family was able to raise the money, she said, “it was people that were helping and contributing for us before our money could complete. We even had to borrow to complete it to be 6million.”

When the interviewer noted that the Imo State Government had claimed the kidn@ppersdid not collect any ransom, the woman’s husband insisted that payments were made.

“They collected. It was we parent that contributed the money. Ours was 6million some people own was 5 million. But ours was more than some people own too. So we the parent met at a place in Ibadan to put the money together and we appointed about two to three people to fly down to Omo state and we still changed the money to dollar because thst was the request of the kidn@ppers,” he said.

He further disclosed that the families were made to pay additional levies apart from the ransom.

“Beyond that 6 million there were other levies requested by the kidn@ppers. We even paid another 1 million each for filing,” he said.

The 20 prospective corps members were abducted on October 1, 2026, while travelling from Ibadan to their respective NYSC orientation camps in Abia and Akwa Ibom states. The victims were reportedly intercepted along the Owerri-Onitsha Road in the Umunoha area of Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State.
