19-Year-Old Nigerian Jailed For Four Years After Posing As Car Buyer To Rob Porsche Owner At G¥npoint In London

A Nigerian-born man, Fawaz Oyedeji, 19, has been sentenced to four years in prison after attempting to steal a £72,500 Porsche Cayenne from its owner using an imitation firearm in London.

Oyedeji, who lives in Greenwich, was sentenced on Thursday at Inner London Crown Court after detectives used CCTV footage, mobile phone records and forensic evidence to link him to the attempted robbery.

He had contacted the victim after seeing the vehicle advertised online and arranged to inspect it at the owner’s home in Southwark on March 18, 2025.

During the meeting, the victim showed him the car before they sat in the front seats to discuss the potential sale. Oyedeji subsequently pulled out what appeared to be a firearm, pointed it at the victim and demanded the keys.

However, the victim fought back, forcing Oyedeji to abandon the attempt and flee the scene. Police launched an investigation after receiving an emergency call.

Investigators traced the phone used to arrange the meeting to Oyedeji and established that it had been around his residence and the robbery scene. CCTV footage also captured his movements before and after the incident.

He was arrested at his home on March 20, less than 38 hours after the attempted robbery.

Oyedeji was convicted on August 12 of attempted robbery and possessing an imitation firearm with intent to commit an indictable offence. A jury found him guilty after just 26 minutes of deliberation.
