President Bola Tinubu has named Professor John Oladapo Obafunwa as the new Director-General of the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research (NIMR), according to a statement released by Chief Ajuri Ngelale, the President’s Special Adviser.
Professor Obafunwa will succeed Professor Babatunde Salako, whose term ends on July 23, 2024, and will assume his new role on July 24, 2024.
The President expressed his gratitude to Professor Salako for his dedicated service and contributions to advancing medical research in Nigeria, as stated in the press release.
This appointment marks a significant development in the country’s medical research landscape, with Professor Obafunwa poised to lead NIMR towards new breakthroughs and innovations.
