Leicester City sack Steve Cooper

Leicester City have announced the departure of manager Steve Cooper following their 2-1 defeat to Chelsea in Saturday’s Premier League clash.

The Cardiff-born coach was appointed during the summer after guiding Leicester back to the Premier League with an impressive 97-point Championship campaign. However, the Foxes have struggled to adjust to the demands of top-flight football, leaving them 16th in the league standings.

Cooper, who previously managed Nottingham Forest and Swansea City, oversaw just 14 matches at Leicester, managing only four wins. In a statement released on X (formerly Twitter), the club confirmed:

“We have parted company with Steve Cooper, who leaves his position as First Team Manager with immediate effect.”

Assistant manager Alan Tate and First Team Coach and Analyst Steve Rands, who joined Cooper’s coaching staff in the summer, have also been relieved of their duties.

As Leicester begin the search for a new manager, interim leadership will be provided by Ben Dawson, supported by Danny Alcock and Andy Hughes.
