None of them can try it’: Davido reacts to Peter Obi’s disclosure about how he makes his money
Afrobeats star Davido has reacted to clip of former Anambra State governor and NDC presidential candidate Peter Obi speaking about his wealth and business background.
In the video, Obi displayed his American Express Platinum Card, explaining that it was among the cards introduced in 1987 for a select group of 5,000 people.
He said he ran a planned market management company and revealed that he was the sole importer of Heinz salad cream, adding that this was just one example of the businesses he was involved in.
Obi also said he was the sole engineer of South African Breweries and was involved in importing Ovaltine.
According to him, he later left one of the companies he had been involved with to his brother, who took over the business and paid him off. He said the company eventually became Next Cash and Carry, with outlets in Port Harcourt and Abuja.
The former governor further revealed that he used to import wine and was widely known as a major trader at the time.
He said he eventually left business for banking, where he became a board member of three banks and served as chairman of one before entering politics and becoming governor of Anambra State.
Obi also disclosed that he held significant shares in the banks where he served on the boards.
However, he stated that his decision to go into politics made him poorer, although he maintained that he does not regret the decision.
Journalist Rufai Oseni, who shared the video on X, used the clip to challenge Nigerian politicians to publicly explain how they accumulated their wealth.
Can every Nigerian politician tell us how they made their money like this?”
Davido quoted the post and reacted:
“None of them can try it 😂😂”
